WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A father and son were arrested in connection to an alleged child abuse incident in Washington County, Tennessee on Tuesday.

Deputies from the Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. from a woman reporting that her estranged husband was chasing her on Bob Crookshanks Road.

The victim identified her husband as 35-year-old Gary Wayne Necessary III, according to a news release from the WCSO.

“When deputies met with the victim, she explained that she went to Necessary’s residence to drop off one of her three children with Necessary, who is their father,” the WCSO stated in the release. “Two of the children were spending the night there, but when she arrived at the residence, Necessary appeared intoxicated. She then left the residence with all three children in her vehicle. Necessary pursued them in his vehicle, tailgating her and eventually side-swiping her vehicle.”

Necessary was arrested around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday alongside his father, Gary Wayne Necessary Jr., who allegedly helped his son evade police.

Gary Wayne Necessary III has been charged with three counts of aggravated child abuse, one count of aggravated domestic assault and vandalism. As of Thursday, he’s being held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center.

Gary Wayne Necessary Jr. was charged with accessory after the fact. He reportedly made his $10,000 bond.

Both are set to appear in court Thursday.
