AUGUSTA, Ga () – The Shroud of Turin is a mystery that continues to intrigue millions around the world, and this week the Augusta community can take a look.

At the Warren Church Augusta campus you can view a replica of the Shroud of Turin that is currently going around the country as well as an exhibit walking through the life of Jesus.

The experience enables people to view events that unfolded at the time of the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

I spoke with the Pastor at Warren Baptist Church, David McKinley, who says having this exhibit has given them the chance for people to learn more about this time in history.

“Because of the historical evidence, all of the scientific evaluation and of course the ongoing discussion about the validity of the shroud, this has given us an opportunity to have many conversations about what this means and what we can see and understand about the evidences that support our faith,” said McKinley.

McKinley says that while he has been to Israel and walked through the Holy Land, he says it’s special to now bring that close to home and share it with the community.

“Our goal in all of this is not in any way to try to have a final confirmation of whether or not this is a real artifact but it is to recognize that it is one of many ways in which we have evidence and in which we have confirmation in our faith because of the fact that it is a historical faith and it is a faith that is built on truth,” McKinley said.

He told me it’s surreal to be able to look at some of the items that were a part of the culture of the first century.

“To be able to consider what we read in the biblical record and what we see with our eyes in the evidence of what’s found here both in the artifacts of crucifixion as well as the Shroud of Turin,” said McKinley.

The experience is free to the public. You can view the Shroud of Turin along with many other pieces now through September 14th.
