The White House revealed to the Daily Mail that the blue object Donald Trump put in his mouth at the U.S Open was a mint.

A photograph has gone viral showing the president with a mysterious blue pill in between his teeth at the Sunday tennis match.

‘It was a mint,’ a White House official told the Daily Mail when asked about the viral photo.

The photo was taken while Trump attended the elite tennis match in New York on Sunday.

Trump’s presence at the prominent sports event led to a delay in the match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz due to security measures.

While sitting in the stands, the president, 79, was photographed by Andres Kudacki biting down on the blue object.

Trump is seen smirking, with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt right behind him.

Speculation ran rampant among X users about the blue pill he took, spurring numerous conspiracy theories regarding Trump’s health, while some suggested the small pill could simply have been blue-colored Altoid mints.

‘U.S. President Donald Trump takes a tablet as he observes the U.S. Open men’s final between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, in New York,’ Kudacki wrote.

‘I was waiting for some reaction from him, he’s a big personality,’ Kudacki later told the Daily Beast. ‘He was very discreet.’

Users online still believe the mint may be a prescription poll or relate to Trump’s overall health.

‘What kind of pill is Donald Trump popping at the U.S. Open today?’ Ed Krassenstein told his followers as the photo began circulating online. ‘Why is the media ignoring his medical conditions?’

Some critics of Trump jokingly speculated the pill could be viagra or blue chew. Others pointed out the president could be taking the blue square-shaped Hygroton pill, which is used to treat high blood pressure and edema.

‘Based on the photo and reports, the blue object in Trump’s mouth at the US Open is unidentified,’ X’s AI pram ‘GROK’ told one user when asked about the pill.

‘Speculation includes a mint (like blue Wintergreen Altoids) or a pill like Hygroton (for blood pressure/edema). No official confirmation exists, and the photographer admitted uncertainty.’

However, supporters of Trump were quick to point out the small little blue pill could simply just be a breath mint.

‘It’s very possible—and even likely—that the object in the photo is a mint rather than a prescription pill,’ wrote conservative user Lorrie Ann on X.

‘The small, light blue, rectangular tablet visible between Donald Trump’s teeth or lips in the image closely matches the appearance of Altoids Smalls Sugar-Free Wintergreen mints.’

In recent weeks there have been concerns and theories regarding Trump’s health after the president was seen with bruise marks to his hand.

Last month, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump has been diagnosed with ‘chronic venous insufficiency,’ which is a ‘common condition’ in individuals over the age of 70.

Leavitt has said Trump’s hand bruising is ‘consistent’ with irritation from his ‘frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin.’

In July, Trump’s swollen ankles were noticeable during public events at the White House. Trump’s staff attributed his swollen ankles to his chronic venous insufficiency diagnosis.

Following these concerns, Trump did not host public events at the White House for four days leading liberal critics to speculate he was seriously ill or even worse.

In reality, Trump spent time playing golf with his family away from the cameras for a few days.
