Cardi B Issued a Warning to Anyone Who Sues Her in the Future

A jury recently cleared Cardi B in a $24 million lawsuit filed by a security guard at her doctor’s office. The guard, Emani Ellis, sued the rapper after an alleged incident in 2018. After the jury sided with her, Cardi reaffirmed that she was innocent of any wrongdoing and issued a warning to anyone looking to sue her in the future.

A security guard sued Cardi B

In 2018, Cardi visited her Beverly Hills obstetrician during her pregnancy with her first child. She had not announced her pregnancy publicly at this point and hoped to keep it a secret. As she entered the building, though, she said she noticed that Ellis appeared to be filming her. While the security guard initially apologized, she said the interaction grew more heated. Cardi accused Ellis of walking into her.

Ellis later sued the rapper and accused her of assault. She claimed Cardi scratched her across the face, leaving a wound that required plastic surgery. She lost her job after the incident, and reportedly sought $24 million for medical expenses and emotional and physical pain. Witnesses, including a receptionist who broke up the disagreement, backed up Cardi’s account.

“I’m not even playing around. Even if I’m at my deathbed, I swear to God, I will say it at my deathbed: I did not touch that woman,” Cardi said in a statement after the jury reached a decision, adding, “I did not touch that girl. I didn’t lay my hands on that girl. I hope that this is something I leave behind.”

Cardi B said she’ll go on the offensive if anyone sues her again

After asserting her innocence, Cardi said that the next time someone tries to sue her, she’ll fight back even harder.

“With that being said, this time around I’m going be nice,” she said. “The next person that tries to do a frivolous lawsuit against me, I’m going to countersue. And I’m going to make you pay. Because this is not ok.”

She went on to note that she works hard for her money and will never just settle a lawsuit to make it go away quietly.

“I think people have ideas, misinterpretations of celebrities, like it’s that, ‘Oh, well, we can ask for this and they’re going to settle.’ You don’t work at home and you don’t work all day, and you don’t work for your money to give out your money. So don’t ever think that I’m just going to give you my money that I work hard for. I don’t lay in bed all day. I work all day. And I work hard for my money for my kids and for people I take care of.”

Still, she told her fans not to harass Ellis online.

“Let’s just put this behind,” she said. “But I’m giving a warning. I am not that celeb that you’re going to sue and you think is going to settle. I’m not going to settle.”

Ellis said she plans to appeal the decision.

She is gearing up to release a new album

Now that Cardi has put the lawsuit behind her, she can focus on the release of her upcoming album, Am I the Drama? Her sophomore album comes seven years after 2018’s Invasion of Privacy. She said she feels confident as the release date nears.

“I’m really one of those artists that people ask for their albums the most every year,” she told Billboard. “I wouldn’t be confident if nobody asked me for my s***. Imagine nobody asking for an album of yours? Imagine nobody asking for your music? That’s why I’m so confident.”

Am I the Drama? will be released on Sept. 19.
