OREM, Utah (ABC4) Charlie Kirk’s organization Turning Point USA confirmed in an internal email sent to staff that Kirk has died following a shooting at a rally at UVU earlier today, and they also released a public statement.

Earlier today, conservative influencer Charlie Kirk was shot while at a speaking event on the Utah Valley University campus. Orem Fire Department has stated that the suspect is not in custody, and it is still an active shooter situation. The incident is being investigated by Orem Police, UVU police, the FBI, and the Utah Department of Public Safety.

President Trump first announced that Kirk had died from his injuries in a post to Truth Social. Now, Kirk’s organization Turning Point USA has confirmed his death in a statement.

It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that Charles James Kirk has been murdered by a gunshot that took place during Turning Point USA’s ‘The American Comeback Tour’ campus event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. May he be received into the merciful arms of our loving Savior, who suffered and died for Charlie. We ask that everyone keep his family and loved ones in your prayers. We ask that you please respect their privacy and dignity at this time.”

Turning Point USA also sent an email to staff about Kirk’s death, which you can read below.

“It is with a heavy heart that we, the Turning Point USA leadership team, write to notify you that earlier this afternoon Charlie went to his eternal reward with Jesus Christ in Heaven.

“We’re still gathering more information and will come to you soon with updates. However, in the meantime, Turning Point USA and Turning Point Action will be closed for business until Monday, the 15th–likely longer.

If you are in the field or traveling for business purposes, please cancel everything and reutrn home immediately. All internal and external meetings, Zooms, etc. are canceled through at least the 15th–again, very likely through the end of next week. Please pray,” the email states.

Charlie Kirk, a conservative influencer and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was appearing for the American Comeback Tour hosted by the Turning Point USA chapter at UVU. The event was being held at 12 p.m. in the UVU Courtyard. A petition was previously created to prevent Charlie Kirk from appearing at the university.

According to a UVU spokesperson, at 12:20 this afternoon, “a single shot rang out in the quad near the food court” at the UVU Orem campus as Charlie Kirk began speaking at his event. Initially, Utah Valley University said that a suspect was in custody, but told students to leave the campus and to shelter in place. Additionally, they cancelled all classes and closed the campus.

Orem Police Department first took a suspect into custody, but they later cleared and released that individual. At this time, the actual shooter has not been identified and remains at large.
