Charlie Kirk wasn’t deterred by security concerns, threats: Friend

() A friend and colleague of Charlie Kirk says the slain conservative activist did not let security concerns and regular threats on his life stop him from interacting with young people at public events.

Jack Posobiec, a conservative commentator and frequent guest on Kirk’s influential platforms, said he spoke with Kirk about safety issues after the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life at Butler, Pennsylvania, last summer. He said a security team traveled with Kirk, who wouldn’t let fear overshadow his activities.

“He basically said that he didn’t want to stop, that he wasn’t going to stop,” Posobiec told “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” on Thursday. “What he said was, ‘The kids always come, and the kids want me there.’ He went for them.”

He said Kirk, whose appearances drew protests, received death threats on a weekly basis.

The worst happened Wednesday, when the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA was assassinated at Utah Valley University in Orem by a sniper who evaded capture. Posobiec noted that his friend was doing what he enjoyed, to the end.

“He went out the way he lived fighting for the truth, holding a microphone on campus, talking to people. That’s who he was,” Posobiec said.

Charlie Kirk enjoyed ‘South Park’ sendup, friend says

Kirk was known for debating opponents at campus events, but his supporters, including Posobiec, said Kirk was genuinely interested in an exchange of ideas. And Posobiec said his friend had a good sense of humor. Kirk was not offended when “South Park” lampooned him in a recent episode in fact, it was just the opposite.

“I watched it with him, and he was laughing the whole time, because that’s how Charlie was,” Posobiec said. “He truly believed that this world is just a temporary thing that we’re in, and he was always able to laugh about it.”

Posobiec filled in Thursday during the daily show Kirk hosted on “Real America’s Voice,” which served as a tribute.

“I can hear his voice in my ear, saying, ‘Keep going, don’t quit,’” Posobiec said.
