Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe returns to the stage after revealing he had a stroke

The band delayed their Las Vegas residency earlier this year, citing only “a required medical procedure advised by Neil’s doctors” without providing specifics.

LAS VEGAS — Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil revealed he suffered a stroke on Christmas last year that left him unable to walk and forced the band to postpone their Las Vegas residency.

The 64-year-old rocker told the Las Vegas Review-Journal he went to sleep feeling fine Dec. 25 but woke up the next morning paralyzed on his left side and unable to get out of bed.

“I had a stroke. My whole left side went out,” Neil said in the interview. “I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough. The doctors said they didn’t think I’d be able to go back on stage again. I go, ‘No, no, I’m gonna do it. Watch and see.'”

The medical emergency prompted Mötley Crüe to postpone their originally scheduled March 28 to April 19 residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM. At the time, the band cited only “a required medical procedure advised by Neil’s doctors” without providing specifics about his condition.

The rescheduled residency begins Friday and runs through Oct. 3, marking Neil’s return to the stage after months of rehabilitation. Neil told the Review-Journal he considers himself “90-95%” recovered from the stroke.

Neil made his first public performance since the stroke at a solo show in Boston on Aug. 1, ending a 10-month hiatus from live performances.

The band also canceled a planned May festival performance as Neil focused on his recovery. Tickets from the original spring dates remain valid for the rescheduled September through October shows.

Mötley Crüe, formed in 1981, is known for hits including “Dr. Feelgood,” “Home Sweet Home” and “Kickstart My Heart.” The Vegas residency is billed as a “tell-all show” and represents the band’s third Las Vegas engagement.

Neil’s revelation comes as the band prepares to kick off what he describes as a comeback performance. The stroke occurred during what was intended to be a holiday break for the veteran rock star, who has been performing with Mötley Crüe for more than four decades.
