SAVANNAH, Ga. () — It’s the fifth week of Friday Night Blitz! Here’s a rundown of what happened under the Friday night lights.

Week 5 of the high school football season saw two programs earn their first wins in over a year. Islands broke a 37-game losing streak. They defeated Groves, 31-18. Islands’ last win before tonight came on Oct. 9, 2021. They won against Groves, 41-2.

The loss is a double whammy for Groves as they opened their brand-new stadium. The ribbon cutting ceremony was on Aug. 28. The Rebels have now lost 10 straight contests. Their last win was against Islands in 2024, 25-22.

South Effingham was the other school to earn a win in over a year. The Mustangs defeated Lakeside-Evans at home, 20-14. Before tonight, South Effingham’s last victory was on Oct. 27 against Grovetown, 40-14, at home.
