Tyler Robinson, who is accused of attempting to assassinate Charlie Kirk, mockingly claimed that a “doppelganger” was responsible for shooting the conservative activist in a conversation with friends on Discord. This came after federal authorities released his photo, according to a report.
The 22-year-old suspect became the focus of discussions with his friends on the social media platform when the FBI shared blurry photos of a tall man dressed in dark clothing while searching for Kirk’s attacker, as noted by the New York Times.
A friend online noticed the resemblance and tagged Robinson alongside the FBI-released images, asking ‘wya’— an abbreviation for ‘where you at?’ — accompanied by a skull emoji.
“Tyler killed Charlie!!!” another user wrote, the outlet reported.
Robinson – accused of blasting Kirk in the neck with one fatal bullet – shot back within a minute, insisting it was a look-alike trying to “get me in trouble.”
One pal even joked that they should try to get the $100,000 reward.
“Whatever you do, don’t go to a mcdonalds anytime soon,” one pal said in a nod to where Manhattan CEO killer Luigi Mangione was nabbed, the paper said.
