CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a crash involving a motorcycle and a truck left one person dead.
Emergency crews responded near the intersection of Mattis Avenue and East Ford Harris Road in Hensley Township just before 2 p.m. on Saturday after reports of a traffic accident with injuries.
When they arrived, deputies with the sheriff’s office learned that the crash had involved a motorcycle and a truck that was towing farm equipment.
The motorcycle was severely damaged in the crash, and the sheriff’s office said the rider, identified as 58-year-old Jason Hart of Champaign, was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck was operated by a 39-year-old male from Foosland.
After investigating, the sheriff’s office said the truck was traveling eastbound on East Ford Harris Road. Hart and another motorcyclist were traveling northbound on Mattis Avenue. As the two motorcyclists approached the intersection, Hart collided with the trailer of the truck. The second motorcyclist avoided the collision, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate. No further information is available at this time.
