The three-word phrase to get people to listen 'instantly'

Capturing people’s attention during a presentation, or in any crowded room, is often half the battle, and one many fail to win.

Now, a public speaking expert has shared a three-word phrase he claimed will get people listening to you ‘instantly.’

John Bowe, a speech trainer, said that starting with ‘Imagine this scenario…’ will have the room perk up and pay attention.

‘It works every time,’ Bowe wrote for CNBC, breaking down how each word is highly engaging.

‘Imagine’ serves as a command that immediately transitions your presentation into the second person, captivating your audience and encouraging them to picture what you’re about to discuss.

‘This’ grounds the story in the present moment, adding urgency and specificity that keep listeners focused on what’s happening right now.

The word ‘scenario’ introduces the anticipation of a narrative filled with details, imagery, characters, and events, which is far more captivating than the typical abstract points or mundane data that people often encounter in presentations.

According to him, these words collectively capture attention, spark curiosity, and invite the audience into a shared mindset where they can emotionally connect with the subject matter.

While Bowe claimed ‘Imagine this scenario’ is a sure thing, he offered up other options to wrangle in the crowd.

Those included, ‘What if you,’ ‘Imagine yourself,’ ‘Think of the last time you’ or ‘Have you ever found yourself.’

A psychologist and life coach recently shared simple body language tricks that you can use to take control of any situation.

Coach Francesca has earned viral fame for sharing psychology tips with her 1.2 million followers on TikTok.

In a video, she teaches users how to use body language to their advantage with seven simple hacks that will help them dominate any room.

Her first tip was a ‘dominance display’ that users need to know’ to take control of ‘any situation.’

Francesca noted that putting your hands on your hips shows that you are ‘ready and alert’, before adding that it tells people you have ‘something to say.’

He said it draws the audience in, gives them a direct command and signals a story is about to unfold

Studies have shown that this stance, commonly called the ‘power pose,’ opens you up and makes you appear taller, which helps to increase your energy levels, confidence and makes you feel more powerful.

Coach Francesca’s next trick was to ‘push away from the table’ if you don’t agree with something someone said.

‘Pushing away from the table shows that the person disagrees with what’s being said,’ she explained.

This gesture may tend to insult someone, so be careful with how and when you use it.

If you’re looking to be intimate with someone, but don’t know how, Coach Francesca explained that using ‘surrogate touching,’ such as ‘stroking a cup’ or ‘pressing a pen against your lips,’ can indicate a desire for intimacy.

‘Surrogate touching, such as stroking a cup or pressing a pen against your lips, means that the person wants to be intimate with the person they’re with,’ she said.

For her next tip, the psychologist noted that if someone likes you, nothing will stand in their way.

She explained that if objects are between you and the person you’re with, and your partner moves these objects, it shows that they like you.

‘Clearing away objects that are between you means that they feel good and they like you,’ she explained.

In a contrasting manner, if someone doesn’t enjoy interacting with you, they will usually use objects to ‘create a barrier.’

‘If they feel bad, they will use objects to create a barrier, like place a cup between you two,’ Coach Francesca explained.

And while surrounding yourself with objects while with someone can show disinterest, placing objects near you while you’re alone is said to boost your confidence levels.
