ORLANDO, Fla. – A tropical wave moving across the central Atlantic is producing a large area of disorganized showers and storms.
Right now, dry and stable air is keeping this system in check, but that’s not expected to last.
Conditions are expected to become more favorable for development by mid- to late week as the wave continues moving west-northwest.
The National Hurricane Center on Monday said there’s a high chance (80%) that a tropical depression will form over the next seven days, most likely after Tuesday.
While formation is less likely in the short term (only a 30% chance in the next 48 hours), models suggest gradual strengthening is probable once the system gets into a more humid and unstable environment.
This area of interest is still well out in the open Atlantic, but many long-range model runs keep the system out to sea.
However, it is still too early to be certain, so make sure to check back in the upcoming days.
