() Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is expected to give an update Monday on how immigration actions targeting the Chicago area have impacted residents.
Pritzker, a Democrat, and President Donald Trump have been at odds over the surge of federal officers to the region as part of Trump’s mass deportation effort.
The president has targeted cities and states with so-called “sanctuary policies” that limit the ability of law enforcement to work with immigration actions.
Both Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have opposed the move to deploy more federal assets to Chicago.
Trump previously threatened to deploy the National Guard to Chicago, as he has done in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
He recently backed off that plan, however, following a court ruling that found the deployment of troops in LA to be illegal and instead announced he would be sending the National Guard to Memphis.
