LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A private security guard, who should not have been armed, allegedly shot a tourist after an altercation on the Las Vegas Strip, the investigative team with Nexstar’s KLAS has learned.

Deangelo Sneed, 20, of Las Vegas, faces two charges connected to the shooting on Saturday, Aug. 30, records said. Documents identify Sneed as an officer for Securitas, a private security company.

The shooting happened just after midnight near a bar at the Grand Bazaar Shops near Flamingo Road, documents said.

Sneed allegedly shot the victim, who was visiting from Chicago, in the hip, police said. Officers arrested Sneed nearby. Inside his car, police said they located a gun on the driver’s side floorboard.

Video surveillance shows the victim and Sneed fighting before the shooting, police said.

In an interview with police, Sneed said several people “stomped and punched him” and that he “shot the [victim] to stop him,” documents said.

It is against company policy to carry a firearm in his role, Sneed told police. Sneed does not have a concealed carry permit and has no formal firearms training, but decided to “bring his firearm to work” that night, according to police.

A security supervisor who works with Sneed told police “there are no armed security officers at the Grand Bazaar Shops” and that their role is to “talk and ask,” documents said.

Sneed’s brother owns the gun, which he bought online, Sneed told police.

Prosecutors charged Sneed with battery with the use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, records said.

Sneed was not in custody as of Monday. It was not clear what bail amount he posted, but Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Nadia Wood previously ordered him to wear an ankle monitor, not possess any weapons and stay out of trouble pending his next court date.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dec. 9.

The 8 News Now Investigators first reported the shooting in its aftermath.

A representative from Securitas did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
