DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The City Manager of Decatur, Tim Gleason, will be stepping down from his role, the city announced Tuesday morning.

Gleason formally announced his resignation in a letter to the Decatur City Council, effective no later than Oct. 31, 2025. This concludes his recent tenure leading the city since his return to the same position in May of 2024. Gleason previously served as the city manager for Decatur between 2015 and 2018. He then worked at the City of Bloomington as its city manager until his return to Decatur last year.

During his tenure, Gleason oversaw city initiatives like improving infrastructure, economic development, and efficiency with internal organization, as well as supporting public safety.

“Tim answered the call to return to Decatur when we needed strong and experienced
leadership,” said Julie Moore Wolfe, Mayor of Decatur. “He stepped in and delivered—not
only on the visible priorities, but also on several complex issues behind the scenes that may
never make headlines but were vital to our city’s progress.”

The city said that under Gleason’s leadership, he identified “significant financial and personnel issues,” ensuring accountability across city operations and improving stability.

“His leadership style emphasized collaboration, transparency, and results–earning him respect across departments and throughout the community,” the city added.

As for the question of who will step into the role next — the Decatur City Council will start to discuss the process for appointing an interim city manager, before beginning the search for someone to fill the position permanently.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the City of Decatur once again,” Gleason said. “This community means a great deal to me. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together—both the projects you can see and many you can’t. I leave knowing the city is in a stronger position and well-prepared for what’s next.”
