Two JSO detectives were on Florida Avenue Sept. 20, 2024, conducting a narcotics investigation when Ja’Von Brown shot at least 18 times at them, Sheriff Waters said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of two undercover detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Monday in Duval County court.

Ja’Von Brown, 24, pleaded guilty to two attempted murder charges. His sentencing date will be set on Oct. 13.

On Oct. 3, 2024, Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters announced Brown’s arrest, as well as the arrest of 23-year-old Anthony Trotter in connection to the Sept. 20, 2024 attempted murder.

Two JSO detectives were in the 3000 block of Florida Avenue that afternoon conducting a narcotics investigation when Brown fired at least 18 rounds towards their vehicle, Waters said. Several bullets hit their car, “narrowly” missing them inside. Waters said they were “ambushed.”

JSO said Trotter was the getaway driver. The sheriff’s office also said that they believed Brown fired at the detectives’ vehicle thinking he was shooting at rival gang members, not police officers.

Brown and Trotter were arrested six days after the shooting.

Court records show Trotter pleaded guilty to an accessory after the fact charge in the case on Sept. 8. He will be back in court on Oct. 8 for his sentencing date to be scheduled.
