() The House Judiciary Committee has scheduled a hearing to discuss crime in the U.S. at the site of the stabbing death of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, who was killed while commuting home on the light rail in Charlotte, North Carolina.

House Judiciary Committee press secretary Stefanie Farrell confirmed to on Wednesday that a Sept. 29 hearing is planned.

Fox News was the first to report on the House meeting.

Zarutska was traveling back to her residence when she was stabbed by Decarlos Brown Jr., who police say is homeless and has a criminal record, on August 22 at about 10 p.m., according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Brown has been charged with her death.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said last week, “We charge, then we indict. Then, legally, we make the decision whether or not to seek the death penalty. That is certainly on the table once he is indicted for this horrific crime.”

The family of Zarutska issued a statement that they are calling on city officials to “publicly address these failures and enact reforms.”

The Trump administration has made crime a top agenda item, taking over law enforcement in Washington, D.C., and sending Marines to Los Angeles in an attempt to get crime under control.

The president has also said he wants to send the National Guard to Memphis and Chicago to fight crime.
