FAIRFAX, Va. (DC News Now) — Former Vice President Mike Pence has a new title to go in front of his name: professor.

George Mason University said Pence would join its Schar School of Policy and Government with the official title of “Distinguished Professor of Practice.”

In making the announcement, the university said: “Pence’s arrival this fall marks a significant addition to the institution’s academic community. He will engage with students and faculty, bringing decades of public service, executive leadership, and policy experience into the classroom.”

The school explained that the former vice president would contribute to undergraduate courses starting in spring 2026. Pence is set to lead seminars “that explore the intersection of politics, leadership, and national governance.”

The university added that Pence’s experience would offer students “an uncommon vantage point into recent history and contemporary challenges,” referencing Pence’s time in office, which coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, and uncertainty in the international landscape.

“It’s a privilege to join the Schar School as Professor of Practice,” Pence said in a statement. “Throughout my years of public service, I have seen firsthand the importance of principled leadership and fidelity to the Constitution in shaping the future of our nation. I look forward to sharing these lessons with the next generation of American leaders and learning from the remarkable students and faculty of George Mason University.”

George Mason said students would have opportunities to engage with Pence through lectures, moderated discussions, and mentorship programs.
