Dem state chair Jay Jacobs shows more fortitude than Gov. Hochul

Kudos to Jay Jacobs, the state Democratic chairman, for standing firm against Zohran Mamdani by emphasizing that the candidate’s socialist platform does not align with “the principles, values, or policies of the Democratic Party.”

This stance is in stark contrast to that of Gov. Kathy Hochul, who recently backed Mamdani in a strategic move to strengthen her prospects for next year’s re-election, despite their differing views on principles and values.

Among those values, as Jacobs noted: “I strongly disagree with [Mamdani’s] views on the state of Israel.”

Hear, hear.

This situation makes you question why other Democrats are not highlighting that the self-proclaimed socialist’s views conflict with the Democratic — and broadly, the American — mainstream.

Long Island Reps. Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen and Bronx Assemblyman Michael Benedetto also proudly refuse to get on the Mamdani bandwagon, while Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, the party’s top leaders in Congress, at least stay silent.

Jacobs, as state chairman and chief fundraiser, has a duty to protect moderate Democrats in swing districts across the state.

Sure, lefties like state Sen. Mike Gianaris are demanding the chairman resign, but he has no reason to fold to Mamdani toadies.

Will the socialists demand Hochul fire Jacobs at risk of their displeasure next year?

Good luck finding anyone to take the job who can actually raise the cash Democrats need, let alone convince moderates not to flee a party the socialists have taken over.
