A familiar TLC face is getting his own show.
Fans of 1000-lb Sisters and 1000-lb Best Friends will recognize Dr. Charles Proctor. The Atlanta-based bariatric surgeon has worked with Tammy Slaton, Amy Slaton, Meghan Crumpler, and others to help them lose weight and get their lives back on track. Now, he’s set to star in Dangerously Obese, which will follow him and his patients as they prepare to undergo weight-loss surgery.
Dr. Proctor delivers tough love in ‘Dangerously Obese’
Dangerously Obese follows people from all walks of life as they commit to undergoing bariatric surgery. Featured stories include a mother-daughter duo who have been plagued with obesity for most of their lives, a newly out and proud gay man ready to live life to its fullest, and a former softball player whose career was cut short by her obesity. Each episode will tell a new story, offering an intimate and in-depth look inside the lives of these brave individuals, following them over the course of a year or more to chronicle their deeply personal journeys.
In the first teaser for Dangerously Obese, one woman dances as she declares that she doesn’t care if people don’t like her body. Another opens up about how much she loves double cheeseburgers “loaded down with double everything.”
But this love love of food could cost these people their lives, Dr. Proctor warns.
“I’m disappointed because I don’t think you have any real idea how unhealthy you are,” he says in a heart-to-heart with one woman. “You’re going to rob your child of his mother.”
His patients are often kidding themselves about how much time they have to change their behavior. In the teaser, he tells one that she’s “a ticking time bomb.”
“A lot of people think things can get better in the future,” he tells a producer. “There may not be a future.”
But getting his patients to embrace a new lifestyle is a challenge.
“I don’t give a f*ck,” one man says. “I don’t care.”
But for those who can make a change, the rewards are worth it. The trailer ends by teasing dramatic reveals for those who’ve undergone weight-loss surgery.
Dangerously Obese premieres Wednesday, October 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on TLC.
TLC also announces new plastic surgery series, ‘About Face’
In addition to Dangerously Obese, TLC has announced a new medical series focused on plastic surgery.
About Face spotlights a team of LA-based plastic surgeons who handle some of the most complex and medically challenging facial reconstruction cases. Dr. Jason Roostaeian, Dr. Millicent Rovelo, and Dr. Andre Panossian work at the cutting edge of reconstructive surgery. Their mission? To transform the lives of patients suffering from severe facial deformities, traumatic injuries, and rare conditions, including massive tumors, extensive birthmarks, and disfiguring accidents.
“Every single interaction is a reminder that I’m different,” one woman says in the teaser for the show.
About Face will capture “the emotional and physical journeys of those who’ve been overlooked, misdiagnosed, or told nothing could be done,’ according to TLC. “It’s not just about changing appearances, it’s about restoring dignity, hope, and humanity.”
“I love what I do,” Rovelo says. “Because our work can change a person’s life.”
About Face premieres Wednesday, October 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
