SAVANNAH, Ga. () – According to Renegade Pets, 13 dogs were seized in an alleged dog-fighting bust in Savannah on August 21st.

Eight of the dogs were deemed unfriendly or sick and killed. “Every single one of the dogs had various signs of neglect or cruelty,” said an investigator.

While Chatham County Animal Control never wants to euthanize healthy dogs, decisions must be made when there is no space and no resources.

Police arrested 29-year-old Malik Anderson for his involvement. Anderson has officially been charged with:

  • 9 counts of Cruelty to Animals
  • Trafficking in Cocaine, Illegal Drugs, Marijuana or Methamphetamine
  • Possession of tools for the commission of a crime
  • Attempt or Conspiracy to Violate the Georgia Controlled Substances Act
  • Purchase, Possession, Manufacture, Distribution or Sale of Marijuana
  • Prohibit Dog Fighting and related conduct

Five dogs from the seizure are still alive and in need of homes. Chatham County has tested the dogs and approved them for release. Renegade says they will now test them and if they are friendly, the rescue facility will take them.

Now, Renegade is reaching out to the community for assistance. None of the dogs still alive have been used in fighting. They are younger dogs that were likely bred on the property and have simply existed there.

You can apply to foster these dogs or any of the dogs at the shelter to make room for them.
