Investigators uncovered thousands of images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children and toddlers from Dr. Daniel Donofrio’s home.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A patient of Dr. Daniel Donofrio says she is deeply shaken after the 75-year-old was arrested Thursday following a search warrant executed at his home, where investigators said they uncovered thousands of images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children and toddlers.

Donofrio is a physician in the St. Augustine area and faces 26 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material, with additional charges expected as the investigation continues.

Lacie Kelley and her family have been patients at Crescent Beach Care for years, but she says her experiences with Donofrio left her uneasy from the beginning.

“He just made my skin crawl,” Kelley said. “You know how you get these vibes off people, without them saying a word, and that was kind of the feeling I was getting off him. I just wanted to get out of the room as quickly as possible.”

Kelley described Donofrio’s demeanor as abrasive and brash, standing out in contrast to the rest of the staff who treated patients with patience and warmth.

“He kind of stood out like a sore thumb there because everyone else is so patient and welcoming, and they treat you like you’re part of the family,” she said.

The news of Donofrio’s arrest hit Kelley and her family hard, especially as a mother.

“I just instantly felt sick to my stomach,” she said.

Kelley said she never expected something like this to happen in her home town.

“These people walk around us all day long every day,” she said. “It’s very unfortunate, it’s very sad, but it happens.”

The physician’s office where Donofrio practiced is popular and has received positive reviews. A request for comment was made after hours, but no response has been received.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office asks anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
