ROSE HILL, Va. (WJHL) — Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin was in Lee County on Friday for the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the White Rock Truss & Components expansion. The company has served southwest Virginia, eastern Kentucky and eastern Tennessee since 2005.

The company manufactures construction products and will reportedly create 27 jobs, according to a release from the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development (VCEDA). Products made at White Russ Truss & Components are shipped across the Southeast and to Mexico, the release said.

“I want to start with the folks who work at this great establishment. If it wasn’t for your efforts, if it wasn’t for the quality products that you manufacture, if it wasn’t for the fact that the trusses that you build here have inspired those customers to come back and buy again,” Youngkin said. “I am sure that leaders here would not have the confidence to take this big step, to invest a million and a half dollars in expanding capacity and hiring even more folks here.”

Funding for the expansion came from VCEDA, the Virginia Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund, which Youngkin approved, and the Tobacco Region Opportunity Fund.

“I have to say, I know you all know this, but it needs to be said again that you have the hardest working delegation enrichment of any region in the Commonwealth of Virginia,” Youngkin said.

Youngkin was joined by VCEDA, Mike Kidwell, general manager of White Rock Truss and Components, Senator Todd Pillion, and a host of others at the ceremony. Attendees all agreed that the expansion would benefit Lee County.

“White Rock trustees, we heard, has been a strong part of this community for a number of years and this expansion just shows their continued confidence in Lee County workforce,” said Pillion. “These are good-paying, high-skilled jobs and not only support families but also strengthen our local economy.”

The expansion will reportedly be a $1.5 million project. Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Matthew Lohr said in the release from VCEDA that the expansion will help grow the wood products industry in the Commonwealth.
