SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Two multimedia journalists were selected by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GAB) to be part of this year’s Rising Stars.

The award selects a group of young Georgia journalists who are in the early stages of their careers and have demonstrated a passion for broadcasting and exceptional promise in the field. ‘s very own multimedia journalists, Nakya Harris and Genevieve Lund, are this year’s honorees.

The GAB Conference (GABCON) is an opportunity for aspiring journalists to engage with Georgia’s top reporters and speak on future challenges and opportunities they see in today’s field.

To Genevieve, catching up with social media trends could be a challenge in Georgia stations’ future, but she says that’s also an opportunity for audiences to get to know their local reporters and anchors.

“People nowadays want to be able to know and personally know the anchor,” she said. “When you tune in and watch reporters… just seeing the personality, feeling like you know that person.”

Nakya believes social media will push journalists to be creative when handling digital content. For her, keeping up with the younger generations is a must, “instead of losing them.”

Congratulations to Nakya and Genevieve!
