President Trump announced on Saturday he is nominating Lindsey Halligan, a senior aide, to serve as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, where the top prosecutor left on Friday amid pressure from the Trump administration to investigate his political enemies.

“Lindsey is a tough, smart, and loyal attorney, who has worked with me for a long time, including in the winning fight against the Weaponization of our Justice System by Crooked Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats, which she witnessed firsthand when she stood up for my rights during the Unconstitutional and UnAmerican raid on my home, Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, announcing the nomination.

Halligan, who currently serves as special assistant to the president, joined Trump’s legal team in recent years and helped defend the president in the classified documents investigation.

Trump called Halligan “extremely intelligent, fearless” and someone who “has the strength and determination to be absolutely OUTSTANDING in this new and very important role.”

“Congratulations, Lindsey – You will do GREAT things for JUSTICE, Virginia, and our Country!” Trump added.

Erik Siebert, who served as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, resigned on Friday amid pressure from the Trump administration to launch an investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) for alleged mortgage fraud.

Trump, in an earlier post on Truth Social Saturday, stressed his frustration with Siebert, describing him as a “woke RINO,” or Republican in Name Only. Trump also insisted he fired Siebert and that he did not quit.

Siebert had recently told senior Justice Department officials that his office found insufficient evidence to charge James, according to The New York Times. Trump’s pressure for Siebert to leave his position came amid his frustration with that case.

On Saturday, Trump urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to take action against his foes, including James, saying, “nothing is being done.”

“They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that, “we can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility.”
