DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — One occupant sustained minor injuries, and three people have been displaced as a result of a Friday night house fire in Decatur.

At approximately 10:10 p.m., the Decatur Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire on Maple Court. Engine 3 arrived first on scene and reported heavy smoke coming from the structure. It was reported by occupants on scene that the fire was in the basement of the residence.

A Second Alarm was then transmitted, which brought additional companies to the scene. Fire crews deployed a hose line to the basement and were able to quickly knock down the main body of the fire.

The additional responding agencies carried out critical support operations, which included ventilation, search, utility control and securing a continuous water supply.

One of the occupants at the house went back inside to locate a dog and tried to extinguish the fire. This person received minor injuries, was checked out by Abbott Ambulance, but refused any further treatment. All of the occupants were evacuated before firefighters arrived on scene.

Another occupant was originally unaccounted for but was later found and was not inside the home at the time of the fire. No other civilian injuries were reported on scene. There were no working smoke detectors in the house.

This fire was confined to the home of origin and resulted in damage to both the basement and kitchen. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. As a result of the extent of the damage to residence, the occupants of this house have been displaced.

With the Decatur Fire Department, Battalion 1, Engine 1, Truck 1, Engine 3, Engine 4 and Engine 5 were the initial responding units on scene. Decatur Fire Engine 6, Truck 2, 312, 313, 314 and 703 were the additional responding units during this incident.
