A 46-year-old Texas man will spend the rest of his days behind bars after fatally stabbing his mother 10 times and then going on the run.

Jeffrey Bennett Flowers was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his 72-year-old mother Jeanette Flowers in 2021 at their home in Rowlett, a Dallas suburb, according to prosecutors.

Cops in Rowlett found the victim”s body on July 4, 2021, while conducting a welfare check. She had been stabbed around 10 times with an unknown object. There were efforts made to clean up the scene.

Detectives quickly identified Jeffrey Flowers as the suspect and later learned he had stolen a paper license plate tag and placed it on his own vehicle. Phone records also showed that he had his mother’s phone in his possession as he fled the area. He wrecked his care in the area near I-635 and U.S. 75/Central Expressway in Dallas. He walked to a gas station and stole a truck.

But authorities were able to track his movements because the owner’s phone was still in the vehicle, prosecutors said. Cops tracked it to Freestone County over 100 miles south of Rockwall.

Jeffrey Flower’s DNA was found at the crime scene and under the victim’s fingernails, suggesting she tried to fight back during the attack. Neighbors said they heard the two arguing in the days leading up to the murder. The press release did not divulge a motive.

“Jeanette Flowers was stolen from her loved ones by the actions of her own son who she only ever tried to help. The efforts of law enforcement, digital and medical professionals, as well as family and neighbors working together solved this heinous crime, giving some resolution to those who cared the most for Jeanette,” Assistant District Attorney Marcia Taylor, lead prosecutor in the case, said in a statement.

The victim worked as a CPA and enjoyed spending time outdoors and with family, her obituary said.
