After Cardi B and Offset were first linked in 2017, their relationship has been a series of ups and very low downs. They have lobbed cheating accusations at each other, broken up, and weathered public fights. In 2024, Cardi filed for divorce for the second time. Just months before this, though, she said she didn’t know how she could ever leave someone she considered her best friend.

Cardi B saw Offset as her best friend

By 2024, the public had seen a great deal of Cardi and Offset’s rocky romance. Still, she said she found a great deal of comfort in the relationship.

“The part I love is that we really like each other, like a support system,” she told Rolling Stone. “We’re really both each other’s cheerleader. I don’t really like talking to people. I’m not as social. If I want something from somebody, he’ll be the one that will talk. Because I don’t like asking.”

At the end of 2023, she took to Instagram Live to tell fans she was at her wits’ end with Offset. By May of 2024, though, she’d softened toward him. Cardi admitted she didn’t know how she could possibly end the marriage.

“I think it through. We think it through, because we do love each other,” she said. “It’s not even about love. We’re best friends. And it’s like, ‘OK. Well, there was a time that I didn’t have a best friend, or I didn’t have a support system.’ It’s not even about ‘How do you leave a partner?’ How do you stop talking to your best friend?”

Just months later, though, Cardi decided she was done with the marriage. At the end of July, she filed for divorce for the second time. 

“They’ve grown apart. That’s what drove her to this decision more than anything else,” a source told Page Six. “This is something she wants to do.”

Though Cardi has accused Offset of cheating on her multiple times throughout their relationship, the source said this was not her primary reason for filing for divorce. 

They are not currently on good terms

In the months since filing for divorce, Cardi has given more insight into her reasoning. She said she felt worn down by his lies and their arguments. The pair has also been at very public odds. When Offset sought spousal support, claiming it was only because Cardi was seeking “everything” in the divorce, she did not hold back.

“Word to my mother. I want you to die, but I want you to die f***ing slow, n****,” she said, per People. “When you die, n****, I want you to die slow in the bed. And when you die, n****, you gotta think of me.”

She also claimed that he has scarcely seen their three children since she filed for divorce.
