Internet 'troll' arrested for threats after Charlie Kirk killing: Police

() Just after thousands mourned conservative activist Charlie Kirk in a memorial in Arizona, the FBI has promised it will conduct a “thorough and exhaustive” investigation into his alleged killer.

Tyler Robinson, 22, has several charges against him for the Sept. 10 shooting and faces the death penalty if he is convicted.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency would also “pursue every lead to its conclusion.” That means agents will go through routine procedures during the investigation and then also look at the numerous tips and suggestions from conspiracy theories that have been circulating on the internet.

Patel said investigating these theories is all in the name of transparency. Patel has been on the hot seat for weeks now, starting with his testimony in Congress on his handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and how the FBI is being run.

More recently, his credibility has been questioned over the apparent mishandling of the investigation of Kirk’s shooting when he posted about a suspect being in custody when Robinson, the actual suspect, was still at large.

In a post on social media platform X, Patel said the FBI would be taking a number of theories into consideration for the investigation, including the location from where the shot was taken, if there were any accomplices, the text message confession and hand gestures observed as potential signals near Kirk at the time of his shooting.

Investigators have been able to uncover and share a wealth of evidence that directly implicates Robinson. Even more details are expected to come out at Robinson’s preliminary hearing Sept. 29.

Patel said some of the details of the investigation are going to be kept secret to protect the investigation but said some theories around Kirk’s assassination have already been debunked. Some on the internet have questioned why a departing aircraft close to Utah Valley University turned off its tracker right after Kirk was killed.

Both the pilot and the FAA were interviewed about the issue, and the pilot attributes the lost signal to the rural nature of the Utah mountains.
