Howard Stern unleashed a furious tirade against ABC and its parent company Disney over the suspension of his longtime friend Jimmy Kimmel.
On Monday morning, the legendary talk radio host, 71, broke his silence after Kimmel’s late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled from the air ‘indefinitely.’
‘I can no longer keep my mouth shut,’ Stern began. ‘I feel obligated to say something, because s**t’s getting outta control.’
The outspoken broadcaster, famous for his provocative style and candid commentary, revealed he canceled his own Disney+ subscription in protest.
‘Someone’s gotta step up and be f***ing saying, “Hey, enough, we’re not gonna bow,”‘ Stern said. ‘Now it might sound stupid, but the thing I did this morning, I’m canceling my Disney+. I’m trying to say with the pocketbook that I do not support what they’re doing with Jimmy.’
While confirming he had spoken to Kimmel since the suspension, Stern added that he only asked about his friend’s well-being, not his future with ABC.

‘I just know when the government begins to interfere, when the government says, “I’m not pleased with you, so we’re gonna orchestrate a way to silence you,” it’s the wrong direction for our country,’ Stern stressed.
He concluded: ‘And I should know, I’ve been involved in something like this. Now ABC is put in the same position and it’s unfortunate they even have to be. They shouldn’t have to be in this position. I feel for them, too, in this.’
Andy Cohen also used his platform on SiriusXM to express that he was ‘very upset’ about ‘this Jimmy Kimmel mess.’Ā
‘Imagine if Biden was going after Greg Gutfeld to lose his broadcast license. Thatās called free speech. Silencing your enemies is un-American,’ he told listeners. ‘I hope in a moment in time where there seem to be no checks and balances for anything thatās happening out of D.C., I hope that good wins here.’
The Emmy Award-winning host went on to praise Republicans, like Ted Cruz, for standing up for free speech.Ā
In a now-viral video shared Saturday, actress Cynthia Nixon also revealed she canceled both her Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions in solidarity with Kimmel and free speech.
‘They asked me why, I hit “other” and wrote: Because I believe in the First Amendment. Reinstate Jimmy Kimmel, now,’ Nixon said.
The And Just Like That star added: ‘My whole family is really gonna miss Abbott Elementary. We are really gonna miss Only Murders in the Building. But you know what? We would miss the First Amendment a whole lot more. Don’t go to the theme parks. Don’t go on the cruises. Cancel your subscriptions now.’

On Monday, more than 400 celebrities ā including Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Tom Hanks, Selena Gomez, Pedro Pascal, Natalie Portman, and Robert De Niro ā signed a letter organized by the ACLU condemning ‘threats to our freedom of speech’ over Kimmel’s suspension.Ā
‘Efforts by leaders to pressure artists, journalists, and companies with retaliation for their speech strike at the heart of what it means to live in a free country,’ the letter read. ‘Last week, Jimmy Kimmel was taken off the air after the government threatened a private company with retaliation, marking a dark moment for freedom of speech in our nation.’
The letter continued: ‘Regardless of our political affiliation, or whether we engage in politics or not, we all love our country. We also share the belief that our voices should never be silenced by those in power ā because if it happens to one of us, it happens to all of us.’
Disney alum Olivia Rodrigo also voiced outrage over the situation by reposting SAG-AFTRA’s statement on Kimmel’s suspension, which she described as ‘blatant censorship and abuse of power.’

Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Tom Hanks, Selena Gomez, Pedro Pascal, Natalie Portman, and Robert De Niro were among the stars on the list of names
‘I stand with Jimmy Kimmel and I stand for freedom of speech,’ Rodrigo declared.
Rodrigo, who launched her career on Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series before her solo breakout, has previously collaborated with the company on her documentary Driving Home 2 U.Ā
She has also been outspoken about politics, publicly endorsing Kamala Harris in 2024 and partnering with the White House in 2021 to promote COVID-19 vaccinations.
Singer John Legend, actors Josh Gad, Alison Brie, Jamie Lee Curtis, Halsey and Henry Winkler were also among the dozens of high-profile stars who weighed in on social media.
MSNBC host Chris Hayes called it ‘the most straightforward attack on free speech from state actors I’ve ever seen in my life and it’s not even close.’

California Governor Gavin Newsom warned: ‘Buying and controlling media platforms. Firing commentators. Canceling shows. These aren’t coincidences. It’s coordinated. And it’s dangerous.’
Meanwhile, Donald Trump celebrated the suspension on Truth Social, calling it ‘Great News for America,’ and labeling Kimmel ‘ZERO talent’ with ‘worse ratings than even Colbert.’
The late-night show, which Kimmel has hosted since 2003, was pulled by Disneyās ABC hours before its Sept. 17 broadcast following comments the comedian made on the program earlier that week regarding the fatal shooting of Kirk in Utah.Ā
Kimmel had said of Robinson: ‘The MAGA gang are desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,’ he said.
‘In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.’Ā

Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled shortly after ABC affiliate group Nexstar announced it would no longer air the show, blasting Kimmel’s comments about Charlie Kirk’s ‘offensive’ assassination (Kirk pictured in March 2025)

He then cut to a video of Donald Trump talking to reporters, where he answered a question about how he was handling Kirk’s death.
When asked how he was holding up, the president responded: ‘I think very good,’ before directing the reporter’s attention to construction on the White House ballroom.
‘He’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction,’ Kimmel joked.
‘This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he calls a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish.’
Two days later, Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr threatened repercussions for Kimmel’s comments, and Sinclair and Nexstar pulled programming.Ā
