Central Illinois pumpkin patches, apple orchards open for the fall season

CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Monday marks the official start of fall, which means the days will soon become brisker, leaves will start to change colors and pumpkin patches will be up and running for the season.

If you’re searching for fall activities in Central Illinois — from farms to orchards to pumpkin patches — look no further. Read on below for information about where you can find these activities and when they’ll be open.

Champaign County

Crowley Pumpkins opened for the season on Sept. 9. Families can find a corn maze, animals to feed, corn, squash and more. The patch, located at 435 County Road 2500 North in Mahomet, is open every day of the week except Thursdays.

  • Monday: 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Friday: 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Curtis Orchard offers free admission and parking, and ticketed activities including various mazes, a giant slide, horse-drawn carriage rides and pumpkin and apple picking. The apple orchard is located at 3902 South Duncan Road in Champaign. The orchard hours change throughout the season:

  • July 20 – September 30
    • Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • October 1 – October 31
    • Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • November 1 – December 23
    • Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • December 24 – July 19
    • Closed except by appointment

Negangard Pumpkin Patch opens for the season Sept. 27. The 50-acre pumpkin patch has squash, gourds, straw bales, honey and more. It’s located at 1883 County Road 700 North in Sidney. Call 217-722-7866 for more information.

Sangamon County

Jefferies Orchard is open from Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Springfield orchard provides green beans, sweet corn, tomatoes, honey, straw bales, pumpkin, apples and more. It’s located at 1016 Jefferies Road.

Bomke’s Patch is a 13-acre farm with over 50 varieties of pumpkins and gourds. The farm also offers corn and bean mazes, wagon rides, a petting zoo and more. It’s open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Oct. 25. Visitors can find the patch at at 605 Country Lake Road in Springfield.

Kristin’s Pumpkin Patch is officially open for the season. Located at 6300 Wind Tree Road in Springfield, the patch offers pumpkins, gourds, a maze and more. It’s open from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

The Apple Barn offers apples, pumpkins, gourds, hay bales, corn stalks, cider, local honey and more. The Garden Center is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. You can visit the Apple Barn at 2290 East Walnut in Chatham.

Macon County

Black Bart’s Pumpkin Patch, located at 9381 West Wise Road in Warrensburg, opened Sept. 20. Visitors can expect a corn maze, hayrides, fall refreshments and more. It is closed on Tuesdays, but open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every other day except Sunday, when it is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Moultrie County

The Great Pumpkin Patch in Arthur opened Sept. 17. Visitors can find around 300 different varities of pumpkin, squash and gourd varieties. Fall fanatics can also meet all kinds of farm animals, explore mazes and gardens, and try made-from-scratch baked goods. The patch is located at 1749A County Road 1900 North in Arthur and is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

The Okaw Valley Orchard, a family run orchard in Sullivan, is also open for the season. The orchard, located at 724 County Road 1750 North in Sullivan, boasts apple cider, a variety of baked goods, educational tours around the farm and plenty of fall fun. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
