DoorDash driver alerts police to hostage situation after delivering suspicious items

SWEETWATER, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A DoorDash driver alerted police to a hostage situation after delivering suspicious items to a motel in Sweetwater, Texas, Monday morning.

The driver called police after bringing the items to the Sweetwater Inn on Georgia Avenue around 11:30 a.m. Police confirmed the driver placed the call and was suspicious because of his delivery, but they did not disclose what items were ordered.

Witnesses told local affiliates KTAB and KRBC the suspect had items like trash bags, zip ties, bleach, a hatchet, and more.

When officers arrived at the suspect’s motel room, they said they found a hostage being held inside. The hostage was rescued before being arrested for an outstanding warrant.

After a brief standoff involving officers from the Sweetwater Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, the suspect was also arrested on warrants, as well as charges related to the hostage situation.

The suspect has only been publicly identified as a man from Snyder, Texas. No further information, including his identity or charges, had been released as of Monday afternoon.
