AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — If you’ve ever dreamed of flying in the Goodyear Blimp, this could be your chance! But it’ll cost you a lot!

The nonprofit Bounce Innovation Hub, located in downtown Akron, launched a silent auction at the beginning of August for two seats aboard the iconic blimp.

Proceeds of the silent auction are said to support Bounce’s strategic plan, which helps provide resources to local entrepreneurs and drive economic growth.

According to organizers, bidding for the two-seat experience started at $1,500 and will climb in $100 increments. As of 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, 18 bids had been placed, with the highest bid being $15,100 for the pair of tickets.

The auction will close Thursday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. during the 2025 PNC Startup Showcase, which is an event designed to bring together entrepreneurs, investors, and community leaders in northeast Ohio.

The auction coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Blimp’s first flight, which took off in Akron on June 3, 1925, as well as the city of Akron’s bicentennial celebration, according to a news release.

“We’re thrilled to offer such a rare and unforgettable experience to support Bounce’s mission,” Jessica Sublett, president and CEO of Bounce Innovation Hub, is quoted in the release. “The Goodyear Blimp is an iconic symbol of innovation and pride for Akron, and with both the blimp’s 100th anniversary and Akron’s bicentennial this year, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. It’s a celebration of our city’s legacy and its future.”

The winner will be announced during the program in later this week. Winners do not need to be present to claim the prize.

According to Goodyear’s website, rides on the Goodyear Blimp are not available for sale. Instead, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company directs the public interest in flights toward helping community nonprofits. Over the past five years, the Goodyear Blimp has reportedly helped raise more than $1.5 million.
