Sherri Shepherd revealed just how much she and her co-hosts were making on The View in a brand new interview that shed light on the difficult time she sometimes had on the ABC talk show.

Shepherd revealed to Vulture that Rosie O’Donnell helped her negotiate her first contract when she was hired on The View in 2007 by revealing just how much they were earning at the time on ABC. And the numbers may shock you.

According to Shepherd, O’Donnell reportedly called her and to tell her “‘what everybody’s making’” after Shepherd began facing backlash from the press who had labeled her “difficult” amid the ongoing contract negotiations. O’Donnell had left The View in 2007 just before Shepherd was hired.

“They didn’t want to give me no money,” Shepherd shared. “I would have made more in a sitcom, and I got a boy with special needs.”

O’Donnell claimed that she was making $2 million at the time, while Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck were both earning $500,000.

Shepherd said O’Donnell reportedly advised her, “So you need to ask for $2 million.”

“They had offered me $400,000,” Shepherd revealed. “I eventually made a million, too. I always will credit Rosie O’Donnell for being free with that.” This is a marked difference from the $1.4 million Kathy Griffin was reportedly offered in the early aughts to join as a full-time host.

Shepherd went on to host The View from 2007 to 2014. She did not overlap with O’Donnell, who returned to the show in 2014 after her exit.

Shepherd admitted that she struggled at times on the show and clashed with Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg.

“Everything that I learned not to do — don’t argue with your elders, don’t debate — was something I had to do every day with Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters right there,” she said.

But Shepherd only had praise to share for her former co-hosts.

“If you don’t learn to speak up with Barbara, she’s going to eat you alive; that’s all she respects,” she recounted. “On my last day, Barbara said she loved me and said, ‘You learned the most.’”
