Inside Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston’s chemistry on ‘The Morning Show’

According to Mimi Leder, the director of “The Morning Show,” working with Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston is an absolute delight. She described the experience of directing these two stars as “incredible.”

“I mean, they’re incredibly smart humans,” Leder exclusively told The Post. “And they come completely prepared.”

Leder, 73, mentioned that the actresses, who portray frenemies at a fictional TV network, review scripts collaboratively. As a result, when they arrive on set, there’s a clear direction in place.

And once Leder turns the camera on, it’s electric.

“Seeing them together in a scene is remarkable because they are immensely captivating,” she mentioned. “Their chemistry is palpable, it’s vibrant, and full of life.”

The Apple+ series has always stayed atop current events — kicking off in Season 1 with a #MeToo storyline and has gone on to examine the COVID-19 pandemic, the Capitol insurrection, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Its current fourth season does not shy away from controversy, tackling the “elusive nature of truth in a polarized America.”

Leder confessed that as much as she enjoys directing the series, “it’s not easy because the subject matter is very complicated.”

“Politically, emotionally. And that’s what makes it very challenging and fun.”

The Emmy winner noted that the current season has women taking over power, adding, “It’s a very interesting dynamic.”

“And of course, you know, the world is insane and our show reflects all of that, power, loyalty, deep fakes,” the “On the Basis of Sex” director continued. “We try and do it in our way, you know, hopefully entertaining through, you know, through the dark humor.”

Leder, who has been directing for decades, shares that she’s been told a lot of “weird things” over the years, but there is one question that drives her to distraction.

“A director, who is female, can be asked, ‘How does it feel to be a female director?’”

“It’s just a ridiculous question,” Leder fumed, adding that it’s never posed to a male director.

“We’re here to tell the story, to create dreams and take you on journeys,” she said.  “And what I bring to the party is me, and that’s, yes, my femaleness. It’s my everything.”

Along with Witherspoon and Aniston, the drama stars Billy Crudup, Julianna Margulies, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Greta Lee and Jon Hamm.

“The Morning Show” seasons 1 through 4 are available to stream on Apple TV+.
