WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A piece of pop-up artwork is turning heads at the National Mall.

On Tuesday morning, a statue depicting President Donald Trump and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was placed along 3rd St. near the Capitol.

The statue shows the two men holding hands and prancing, along with a plaque that reads, “In Honor of Friendship Month we celebrate the long-lasting bond between President Donald J. Trump and his “closest friend,” Jeffrey Epstein.”

Two other plaques include quotes from a birthday note allegedly written by the President and given to Epstein. That letter also included a hand-drawn picture of a naked body.

The White House has denied that the letter is legitimate and that the President wrote it.

“We have maintained that position all along. The President did not write this letter, he did not sign this letter,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press briefing earlier this month. “The President cares about victims of all crimes, and that’s why Republicans, the Trump Department of Justice has done more in terms of transparency when it comes to the Epstein case than any other administration.”

Onlookers stopped, stared and took photos of the statue throughout the day.

“I think it’s fantastic. I took some pictures, I’m sending them to my sister down in North Carolina,” said Petra, who was walking home from a doctor’s appointment when she saw the statue. “We need levity.”

Blake trekked down to see the state after seeing photos of it on Reddit.

“I’m happy to get to see it in person; it’s hilarious. Highly appropriate,” Blake said.

The pop-up comes nearly two weeks after the Senate voted 51-49 against a bill that would’ve forced the public release of case files related to the sex trafficking investigation into Epstein.

Those files have been dubbed “the Epstein files.”

“I think there are probably a lot of people and all devious stuff. Whoever is in it, it should all come to light, whoever it is, either side,” Blake said.

Joey Poole stopped by the statue to take photos of it as well.

“I think it’s something people should not forget, and we should be interested in finding out what is in the Epstein files and who,” Poole said. “I think we should hold our leaders accountable if they indeed are in there.”

The statue is not the first of its kind to be placed on the National Mall.

The group behind it, which is remaining anonymous, has placed similar pieces of artwork, also mocking the President.
