Officials said on Monday that a Pennsylvania woman and her 1-year-old son, whose bodies were discovered last week, died as a result of homicide.

On Saturday, Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo, 31, and her son, Jeydon, were found dead 150 yards apart in a grassy area in Ontelaunee Township. The pair was last seen on September 12 — a day before the woman’s husband, Yunior Cabrera-Colon, 31, was found fatally shot in the head in some brush in Berks County, according to WCAU.

Last Thursday, amid Peguero-Mancebo and her son’s disappearance, police arrested Jose Luis Rodriguez, 61, for his suspected role in Cabrera-Colon’s slaying.  Rodriguez allegedly confessed to killing Cabrera-Colon.

According to Daily Local News, Peguero-Mancebo’s apartment application listed Rodriguez as her husband — though apartment staff said they never saw him. Staff said they frequently saw Cabrera-Colon, who was listed on the application as her brother.

Investigators determined that Cabrera-Colon was Peguero-Mancebo’s actual husband, but Rodriguez allowed her to list him as her husband on the application because Cabrera-Colon would not pass a background check.

Daily Local News reported that Cabrera-Colon, Peguero-Mancebo, and Rodriguez worked together at a warehouse. Rodriguez allegedly also admitted that his wife threatened to divorce him due to the time he spent with Peguero-Mancebo.

Rodriguez reportedly then confessed to killing Cabrera-Colon after he confronted him about his involvement with his wife. Rodriguez claimed the disagreement turned violent before Cabrera-Colon brandished a gun. Rodriguez said he kicked the gun out of Cabrera-Colon’s hands before picking up the weapon and shooting him in the back of the head, according to Daily Local News.

Rodriguez allegedly dumped Cabrera-Colon’s body at Baer Park. Though Peguero-Mancebo and her son’s deaths were ruled homicides, authorities have not revealed how or when they died.

Rodriguez is charged with first-degree murder, and abuse of a corpse in Cabrera-Colon’s slaying. However, he has not been charged with the mother’s and son’s homicides. District Attorney John T. Adams said he would update the public on their investigation on September 29.
