ORLANDO, Fla. – There are two tropical waves in the Atlantic basin worth noting.
The tropical wave further east in the Central Atlantic is likely to turn and take a path similar to Gabrielle and Erin.
This wave currently has a 90% chance for tropical development over the next seven days.
A wave closer to the Caribbean now has a 70% chance for tropical development over the next seven days.
The most likely outcome for the tropical wave near the northeast Caribbean is an eventual turn away from Florida, but its future isn’t as cut and dry.
This is because of the close proximity between the two tropical waves and an unusual steering pattern that will evolve over the eastern U.S. into the weekend.
The two developing storms will likely disrupt each other’s development and potentially track.
This scenario is very hard to dissect this early in the game since the storms are not yet developed making it unclear on how they will evolve in both track and intensity.
Hurricane Hunters are expected to fly missions into and around the storm starting Wednesday to collect data.
Elsewhere in the Atlantic, Gabrielle remains a powerful Category 3 hurricane east of Bermuda.
The next two named storms are Humberto and Imelda.
