HONOLULU (KHON2) – A Hawaiian father and son duo made a big catch on Sunday off the island of Oahu.
Michael “Marlin Man” Kiyama and Kakela Lee from Nanakuli reeled in a 650-pound marlin after a one-and-a-half-hour fight off the coast of Waianae, located on the southwest edge of the island.

The family’s love for fishing has been passed down through generations, the anglers told Nexstar’s KHON. Kiyama began fishing with his dad at the age of 12 and continued to fish for 61 years.
This is his largest catch to date, with his previous record at 580 pounds, which he caught with his dad more than 40 years ago.
According to Marlin Magazine and the International Game Fish Association, the largest Pacific blue marlin on record was also caught in Hawaii, when Jay de Beaubien reeled in a 1,376-pounder off of Kona in 1982.
