SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Savannah State football team picked up a huge conference win last week when they defeated Miles, but many were surprised at the quarterback behind center.
Freshman quarterback Fabian Walker got the start and had a terrific game. He was 17-of-24 for 204 yards, including three touchdowns and no interceptions. Coach Aaron Kelton tells they are going to roll with the freshman for the Kentucky State game.
“Just think it’s consistency,” Kelton said, referring to why Walker will earn his second start on Saturday. “I think that he was able to move the offense. And so that’s kind of the direction we’re going. We scored 45. It is important that we continue to try to put points on the board and he was able to do that. So we’re going to go with him.”
In the Tigers’ first two games, Christian Burks earned the start. However, during the open week, Coach Kelton felt the team needed a spark.
Savannah State’s game with Kentucky State kicks off at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Wright Stadium.
