DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Natayla Bourn of the Illume Counseling and Wellness Center joined WCIA’s Mitchell Rife to talk about seasonal changes with mental health.

Bourn says that this is the time of year that people often experience seasonal depression, which is a depressive disorder that is typically seen in the fall and winter. This brings on low moods and low motivation for those affected.

People can identify others with seasonal depression if they seem sad, are feeling down a lot more, and are eating more, especially when these people aren’t typically like this during the seasons of spring and summer.

Individuals experiencing seasonal depression are urged to get outside more, especially during the day, find light boxes that mimic natural light, take a drive, exercise and eat healthy. For more information, head to the Illume Counseling and Wellness Center Facebook page or website.
