AUGUSTA, Ga. () –  For more than 45 years, this little post office delivered.
“It’s just so convenient. Everybody is so nice. The mail gets out on time. I’m very sad about it,” said Dale Nalley.

Countess letters, cards, and packages have been mailed from the Surrey Center Pharmacy Post Office since it opened in 1979, but the owner received a letter from the Postal Service saying its contract would end because customers have other options.

“And there were several post offices in the area that if we were not in operation, that they were close enough and there were enough of them they would be able to take care of anything that we able to do here,” said Courtnee Rush, the owner.

But long-time customers do not agree with that.
To them, there’s nothing like Station Number 6.
“I tell you, I’m heartbroken. I love it. I’ve used it, I’ve lived here about 32 years and this has been one of my favorite things,” said Penny Brown.
“It’s the best post office in town. The people are so kind and helpful and we’re going to really miss it,” said Susan Crosby.
“We’re gonna miss, you know, the customers that come in on a daily basis, but we know we’ll see them on other times during the week and the year. We know they’re not going anywhere, we just won’t see them as much,” said Russ.
The pharmacy is staying open, but without its little Post Office starting at 5 p.m. September 30.
“It’s an era that’s ending, that’s what it is, it’s a bygone era,” said Crosby.
A trip to the post office can be an ordeal, but not for the customers here, so they’re giving the decision to close their stamp of disapproval.
