SAVANNAH, Ga. () — We are tracking storms for today and the weekend, along with keeping tabs on Invest 94-L.

For Friday afternoon and evening, expect showers and storms to develop and lead to areas of heavy rain, and the possibility of localized flooding. On and off showers and storms are expected Saturday and for portions of Sunday.

The tropics have some changes this morning with Humberto strengthening into a hurricane, and Invest 94-L’s status remaining the same. Invest 94-L has a 90% chance of becoming a depression or named storm by this weekend. An area of low pressure will form once the disturbance is able to move further away from Hispaniola. 

Very warm water will allow for the system to organize as it tracks northward. The path forward for future-Imelda remains somewhat murky, as the steering pattern will be dictated by a broad upper-level area of low pressure over the Tennessee Valley and Southern Appalachian Mountains.

Hurricane Humberto being located a few hundred miles east also further complicates things due to the uncertainty in how it’ll interact with 94-L/future-Imelda. Hurricane-specific computer models are keen on the storm making a left-hand turn being the more likely scenario.

Until a low-level center forms, computer models will struggle with resolving the outcome of the system. In addition to the track, the future intensity of this system is also more uncertain than usual due to dry air and the placement of areas of wind shear.

The timing of impacts for the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry continues to be centered on the Monday-Tuesday timeframe. More clarity on exact details with the magnitude of wind, rain, and storm surge impacts will come later today and through the weekend.
