A viral video circulating on social media shows a Southern California dentist who’s centered her practice around her support of President Donald Trump joking that she dials back the anesthetic for patients who aren’t Trump supporters.

The video shows Santa Clarita dentist Dr. Harleen Grewal giving some sort of presentation in which she mocks and derides patients who don’t share her political beliefs.

In the viral Tiktok video, which has since been taken down but remains available elsewhere, she describes the visceral reaction some patients have when they see her “Wall of Fame” featuring photos of Republican leaders and members of Trump’s orbit.

“I get patients that come into my office, and when they see the pictures, you’d think their butt was on fire,” she can be heard saying. “They jump off and take off as if Trump was coming in the room.”

She continues, adding that when people complain about the price of her services, she asks them, “How’s Bidenomics working for you?”

In her comments, she also describes how she preferred having fewer Democrat patients during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, saying she wished they still “stayed home with their masks on.”

But one comment in particular has drawn the ire of the internet and accusations of malpractice.

“I have a secret hat I use sometimes. It says, ‘Make your smile great again,'” Grewal says in the video. “I wear that when I work on my patients so when they look horrified or complain, I quietly cut back on the laughing gas and say, ‘You got this. It’s not as bad as you think it is.'”

It’s unclear when the video was taken or why Grewal was giving a presentation. She describes herself as a California GOP delegate who is a member of several local conservative groups.

Grewal has made a career out of branding herself as the “MAGA Dentist,” not just on her personal social media but also in promotional materials for her business, Skyline Smiles.

Her personal pages show her posing for photos with Trump, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton. Posts promoting her business show MAGA-inspired merchandise, including a tooth embossed with an American flag design and a swoop of gold hair that resembles the president’s.

The promotional materials feature the slogan “Drill Baby Drill,” a conservative rallying cry used to promote the oil and gas industry. A red hat, synonymous with the Make America Great Again movement, also features the slogan.

On Thursday, many of her social media posts had been bombarded with accusations of bias and dereliction to the responsibilities of being a health care provider. Reviews have been temporarily disabled on Yelp due to “increased public attention” and potential misuse of the platform, encouraging actual former customers to return to provide feedback at a later date.

A screenshot shared on social media alleges to show an interaction between a user and Grewal’s business page, in which the user chastises her for the comments and Grewal’s business page responds: “It was part of a funny speech. If you don’t have a sense of humor you won’t understand.” The conversation ends with Grewal’s page telling the unidentified person to “go get a life.”

On Thursday, KTLA’s Annie Rose Ramos spokes with Grewal as she was leaving her practice and asked her to respond. She again reiterated that the comments made were jokes and said she had been investigated by the California Dental Board and cleared of any wrongdoing.

In an opinion piece published in the Santa Clarita Valley Signal, Grewal said her “words were twisted” and her “career was targeted.”

She said the comments were made during a speech at the “Republican Liberty Gala,” presumably the one put on by the Santa Clarita GOP, of which she was this year’s title sponsor.

She describes the public backlash from those comments as an unsuccessful attempt at “cancel culture” because she “dares to think differently.”

“When you stand up, speak out and make a difference, there are people who will try to tear you down. But here’s the truth: It only works if you let it. And I refuse to let it,” the piece reads.

KTLA reached out to the California Dental Association, which released a statement that reads in part: “The comments in this video, even if intended as humor, do not reflect the ethical standards of the dental profession.”
