Kamala Harris book tour won't help party win elections: Strategist

() Democratic strategist Chuck Rocha criticized former Vice President Kamala Harris’ book tour, saying it won’t help the party win future elections and amounts to “rehashing the worst election we ever had.”

Rocha, who has run Democratic campaigns for 36 years, told ’s “Batya!” that Harris’ promotion of her book “107 Days” feels like salt being rubbed in a wound. He pointed to the party’s poor performance in the 2024 election, noting Democrats underperformed in about 96% of counties compared to Joe Biden’s 2020 results.

“I don’t think looking back and rehashing the worst election we ever had” is helpful, he said. “I think it’s time to be looking at what the party needs to do to move forward.”.

He said that means focusing on combating Republicans and winning back working-class voters.

Harris went on a book tour involving 15 cities, including the United Kingdom and Canada, for “107 Days.” The book outlines her short-lived White House bid.

Republican Kari Lake joined the discussion, saying she was happy to see Harris back in the spotlight because it would help Republicans maintain power. Lake criticized Harris’ speaking ability and Democratic policies on immigration, employment and inflation.

Rocha, who grew up in a trailer house in East Texas, said he originally joined the Democratic Party to fight trade deals and keep jobs in America. He said he was concerned that the party has moved away from its working-class roots and stopped effectively communicating about worker issues.

When pressed about why he doesn’t join the Republican Party given Trump’s appeals to working-class voters, Rocha said he believes Republicans only want those voters for their votes, not because they genuinely care about their concerns.

Rocha said the party’s future might lie with politicians like Rep. Gabe Vasquez of New Mexico, describing him as “a Latino who’s not scared to go hunting and fishing every weekend, who talks about workers.”
