INDIANAPOLIS — A 15-year-old is now being charged as an adult for his alleged role in the brutal stabbing of a 14-year-old Arsenal Tech student last year on Indy’s near east side.
According to court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4, Jeury Aburto Guzman is now facing an adult murder charge in Marion Superior Court 27. Typically, FOX59/CBS4 does not name juvenile suspects unless they’re charged as an adult.
Officers responded on Dec. 16 shortly after 9 a.m. to the 400 block of N. Randolph Street in response to a reported stabbing. When officers arrived on the scene, IMPD said at the time that they found a girl suffering from multiple stab wounds in the grass of a home near the corner and Randolph Street and Sturm Avenue, just a few blocks from Arsenal Tech High School.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. She was later identified as 14-year-old Anabel Trujillo, an Arsenal Tech student.

Initial investigation
Court documents have now shed more light on a possible motive behind Trujillo’s deadly stabbing. As officers and detectives arrived to investigate, they observed multiple stab wounds to her face, chest and right hand.
Detectives met and spoke with a neighbor who reported seeing Guzman on top of Trujillo. They said he appeared to have “something in his right hand” as he was striking her on the ground.
They said the suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored pants and a red backpack. They said he seemed young and had a “thin” build. They recalled seeing the suspect running eastbound on Sturm Avenue before turning southbound onto Randolph Street.
Another neighbor said they saw the altercation taking place outside their window. They told police they exited their residence and approached Guzman as he was allegedly on top of Trujillo on a sidewalk outside.
The attacker reportedly ignored the neighbor’s pleas to stop attacking, court documents said. When the neighbor went back inside their home to contact 911, they reported that Guzman had allegedly fled the area.
Technology, witness assistance helps detectives make an arrest
As the investigation unfolded, detectives reviewed a video camera in one of the neighbors’ backyards. The footage showed Guzman wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored pants and a red backpack walking northbound in an alley around 8:45 a.m.
Footage recorded by a camera located on the main gate of Arsenal Tech High School also captured Guzman walking through campus while covering his right hand. The footage showed the suspect walking to the third floor of Stuart Hall, where he reportedly entered a classroom.
Around this same time, school officials announced that the campus was under a lockdown after learning that an incident had occurred. Court documents said Guzman went back to his classroom within 30 seconds of the lockdown announcement and asked for a band-aid for a cut on his hand. He was the only student inside the classroom alongside one teacher.
It was there that officers took Guzman into custody.
This teacher informed officers that he had observed a “significant” cut on the inside of Guzman’s right hand. The responding officers also reported observing what appeared to be blood on Guzman’s t-shirt.
A few days later, officers received additional video footage allegedly showing Guzman running southbound on a sidewalk on N. Randolph Street. He can then be seen stopping in front of a home while holding a bloodied knife and gloves before placing them into a red backpack.
Promise of a ‘gift’ precedes deadly stabbing
Officers then spoke with a girl who was a friend of the victim. She said Trujillo left class early that morning to meet a boy at the former Indiana Women’s Prison, which is adjacent to N. Randolph Street and is directly across the street from the residence where Trujillo was killed.
Once the search warrant was approved, detectives accessed the red backpack Guzman had been carrying with him. Court documents show that officers recovered a large kitchen knife and two rubber gloves. The knife and gloves were suspected of having blood on them.
A subsequent autopsy report confirmed that Trujillo’s cause of death was multiple sharp force injuries and ruled her death a homicide. She suffered 83 stab wounds to her body.
As the investigation developed, detectives received an anonymous tip claiming that Trujillo’s boyfriend lured her from school, telling her he had a “gift” for her. The tip added that Guzman reportedly thought she was cheating on him, so “he stabbed her to death.”
Court documents show that another friend of Trujillo corroborated this anonymous tip. She explained that Trujillo planned to leave school early to meet Guzman because he was going to give her a gift. Another friend confirmed this as well. The third friend added that Trujillo and Guzman had reportedly dated for a few months before she allegedly cheated on him. In response, the friend said Guzman threatened her and told her to “watch her back,” according to court documents.
Online jail records show Guzman was booked into the Adult Detention Center on Friday and is being held on a no-bond hold until his initial hearing on Sept. 29. A court filing indicates the decision to waive Guzman into adult court was made this week.
