GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Three members of a well-known TV family have died after a crash in Michigan’s Thumb region.

The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 9 p.m. Friday night outside of Cass City, 40 miles east of Saginaw. Multiple sources are reporting Bill and Barb Putman, the patriarch and matriarch of the large family, along with their daughter-in-law, Megan, were killed in the crash.

Investigators say a driver in a semi-truck ran through a stop sign, striking the other vehicle. The three were pronounced dead on scene. Five others were rushed to hospitals, some in critical condition. A social media post from the family identified them as Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah and Gia.

The family asked for prayers and confirmed the deaths Saturday morning, saying “Papa, Neenee and Aunt Megan … have gone home to be with the Lord.”

“Even in this time of heartbreak, we rest in knowing that God is in control,” the post read.

The semi-truck driver and his passenger were taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. The driver was subsequently arrested, and a report has been submitted to the Tuscola County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges.

The Putman family was featured on TLC in a show called “Meet the Putmans.” It aired six episodes in 2017, chronicling Bill, Barb, their four children and their extended family that all live together in one giant home.

The show was revived as a YouTube series called “Growing Up Putman” in 2021.
