Mariah Carey is staying tight-lipped when it comes to answering questions about her ex-husband, Nick Cannon and their co-parenting journey.

During a recent interview with Gayle King for CBS Mornings, the 56-year-old singer was asked about how she and ex-husband Nick Cannon manage co-parenting their 14-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe. Mariah, who is famously careful with her words, gave a short but telling response.

“I kind of feel like it’s best if I don’t talk about him, because he can just be in his own world,” The “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer said. “No offense to him.”

Mariah and the Wild ‘N Out host married in 2008, welcomed their twins in 2011, and finalized their divorce in 2016. Over the years, both have spoken at different times about how they work together to raise their children, though Mariah has always emphasized protecting their privacy.

Back in July, she reflected on the balance in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “How do I say this? They spend time with him, and they have a good time; they spend time with me, and they have a good time,” she said. “I want to make sure I’m always fair about the situation because it’s tough to grow up with divorced parents.”

Carey has also spoken openly about the love she has for “dem kids,” the nickname she uses for Monroe and Moroccan. “They’re a lot, but they give me so much love in return. I wouldn’t be the same person without them,” she told People Magazine in 2019. “I think Nick and I have done pretty well in co-parenting, staying friends with each other so that we can talk.”

While she isn’t eager to detail her co-parenting dynamics today, Mariah has made it clear that her children remain the focus. When asked in December if she would support them entering the entertainment business, she shared nothing but encouragement.

“I think they’re both very talented and smart, and if they want to pursue having a life as an entertainer, then I think they should,” Carey told People Magazine. “It’s a hard kind of life, but they seem to really love performing, so I’m happy for them.”
