SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Fire crews are on the scene of a gas leak at a Springfield airport, and some buildings have been evacuated.

Springfield Fire Department’s Assistant Chief Julie Plunk told WCIA that the department first received reports of a gas leak at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport at 11:13 a.m. She said a two-inch line was severed approximately 50 feet from the Standard AERO building at the airport.

At this time, the Standard AERO building and other buildings at the airport have been evacuated for people’s safety. The fire department is on-scene and has pulled a hose line in case anything ignites. They are currently on standby waiting for crews to close two valves in order to stop the leak.

Plunk said utility crews are also on scene and that no injuries have been reported during this incident.

WCIA reached out to the airport for more information but did not receive an immediate response.

This is a developing story. WCIA will provide updates as information is received.
