Inside the ugly divorce battle tearing Nashville Country scene apart

It’s the ugly divorce battle that’s the talk of the Nashville music scene.

In a surprising turn, country music sensation Zac Brown, 47, stunned his fans in July by revealing his engagement to southern jewelry designer Kendra Scott, 51. This exciting news came just two months after the couple appeared together publicly for the first time at The American Music Awards.

The pair met through mutual friends; and it will be Brown’s third marriage and Scott’s fourth.

Both Brown and Scott are well-known figures in the southern cultural scene. Kendra Scott is adored for her jewelry, which is especially popular among young women during sorority recruitment, while Zac Brown has amassed a large following through his seven successful albums that celebrate themes like enjoying fried chicken and experiencing love.

Despite the idyllic images of their fishing outings and their affectionate moments on the red carpet, there is a significant issue to contend with… the country singer is still embroiled in a legal dispute with his most recent ex-wife, actress Kelly Yazdi, 34.

Now, an insider has exclusively told the Daily Mail how Brown really feels about Scott and what his failed relationship with Yazdi taught him, revealing: ‘Three is a charm for Zac, and he intends for Kendra to be the love of his life.’

Brown and Yazdi started dating in 2022 and tied the knot in August 2023.

However, the relationship quickly soured and Brown filed for separation just four months into the marriage.

According to court documents, Brown asked for an emergency temporary restraining order to prevent Yazdi from making any claims that could damage his image. A judge later denied the temporary restraining order against her but the legal drama didn’t end there.

The Hawaii Five-0 actress took to Instagram, writing: ‘No one — not even Zac Brown with all of his money, power, celebrity, and lawyers — may silence my right to freely express myself through art or, although I have to date declined to do so publicly, to speak about the circumstances of our pending divorce.’

‘Like Zac, I have lawyers too, and I will tell my truth in court — where he has unnecessarily dragged me.’

She added that it was ‘ironic’ that Brown filed this lawsuit but shared a music video that she claimed ‘mocked’ their wedding and painted her in a negative light, apparently referencing Zac Brown Band’s ‘Beautiful Drug’ music video featuring Avicii.

The music video showcases a brunette woman partying, and many fans thought it was a cheap shot at Yazdi as the women look eerily alike. In the video, the ‘lookalike’ model appears to be spiraling out in a bar as Brown sings about a ‘death wish.’

However, the Daily Mail understands the video was actually shot back in 2018 – before Brown had even met Yazdi.

Thought their divorce was finalized in January this year, come July, Yazdi shared another post in response to ‘some of the comments circling,’ claiming that ‘Zac has forced me into litigation so I have no choice but to defend myself against his circus.’

The former couple went to trial on September 15 in Atlanta, after Brown filed additional lawsuits accusing Yazdi of violating her employment agreement with his company and engaging in ‘corporate espionage.’

On September 18, the last day of the non-jury trial, Yazdi said she ‘hadn’t been paid through the prenuptial agreement.’ She also explained that her ‘salary ended’ when she was ‘terminated,’ as she previously worked as executive Vice President of Zac Brown’s Collective.

During the trial, Yazdi brought up how she was upset after she didn’t get to keep her G Wagon, or Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which she was given as a wedding gift. She also recalled her Instagram post and said people saw Scott traveling in Texas in what looked like her car.

Yazdi also said she was unhappy because she felt she was ‘being dragged through litigation’ while he’s ‘flaunting his new relationship, throwing me under the bus in the press, and meanwhile launching his new album.’

Now, the court is going to rule in December and the parties involved will make a decision if they want to continue their fight.

This wasn’t the first time Yazdi had shown she was upset about the re-gifted vehicle.

In an Instagram post on July 28 Yazdi wrote: ‘Everyday I wake up to some carefully crafted PR story highlighting the ‘perfect love story’, yet I’m still being buried in legal fees and told that if I even try to tell my side of the story, that somehow I’m in the wrong…’

Yazdi, who is based in Hawaii, shared side-by-side photos to prove Brown took her own the same exact dates as Scott. The copycat dates looked remarkably similar and included a romantic Bahamas serenade, an outdoorsy Alaska fishing trip, and making their red carpet debuts.

‘The rumor mill has it that my custom green Mercedes-Benz wedding present was actually REGIFTED and has been seen in Austin, Texas,’ Yazdi continued, as she believes he’s given her car away to his future wife.

In August, Yazdi returned to Instagram with what she called her ‘biggest update yet’ about the lawsuit, saying the judge ‘made it very clear that celebrities do not get special treatment and are not above the law.’

Yazdi added: ‘The federal judge issued an order declaring that Zac’s contracts — those he’s been using to try to silence me — are UNENFORCEABLE as written.’

‘His choice to drag me through lawsuits, while using his PR machine to spin false narratives about me, has only led to loss after loss for him,’ Yazdi continued.

Yazdi explained she wants Brown to ‘drop his ridiculous lawsuit against me … ‘WITH Prejudice’…. (meaning in legalese he cannot sue me again)’ and reimburse her ‘for the hundreds of thousands of dollars’ she’s spent on attorney fees.

While Yazdi has no issue airing their dirty laundry on social media, Scott has stayed much quieter. She often posts inspirational quotes applauded by her followers on her personal page, urging women to ‘lift each other up’ and talking about how she’s ‘powered by purpose and faith.’

This supremely messy divorce isn’t the only drama Brown is dealing with.

The scale of his upcoming Las Vegas residency at the Sphere in December is coming with a hefty price tag.

The musician even revealed to Us Weekly he’s ‘going into debt to make it happen,’ adding that he wants ‘to be among the names of the Grateful Dead and the Rolling Stones and the bands that take that lifelong career impact fan journey.’

An insider told Daily Mail that Brown is ignoring the drama and focusing on his career, because what matters is ‘making hits for himself and for others in the Nashville scene.’

The source said Brown feels ‘it would be three strikes and he’d be out if his relationship with Kendra fails, but he is happy to be as far away from Kelly as possible.’

When the couple eventually weds, they’ll be combining their families. Brown shares five children with his ex-wife, Shelly Brown, while Scott has two adult sons with her former husband, John Scott, and a young son with another ex, Matt Davis.

The insider said that the country superstar ‘holds a dear place for his first wife, because they have kids together and spent so much time with each other’.

He plans to use what he learned from that relationship and his short marriage to make his next union ‘as magical as possible,’ they added.

The Daily Mail reached out to Yazdi for comment.
